Greetings, True Grit Sports Nation!

On Saturday July 22, the First annual Austin Pettis Foundation - Celebrity Basketball Game (
www.austinpettisfoundation.org ) tipped off.  It was a successful event! The event's attendance and all-star participation was great! The game was competitive and exciting. Some notable all - stars in attendance: NFL Hall of Famer - Jackie Slater (Retired NFL RAMS), Austin Pettis (NFL Rams), Brandyn Thompson (NFL Redskins), Asa Jackson (NFL Ravens),  Rapper- Mike Jones, and numerous (local) professional sports celebrities.
Later that evening, the AP Foundation sponsored / provided dinner and entertainment, along with several great auction items for bidding.  All of the proceeds from this event will provide sports camp opportunities for underprivileged youth.  This is the mission of the Austin Pettis Foundation.

The True Grit Sports Nation of TGS Alumni and supporters are very proud of this TGS Alumni - Austin Pettis. His efforts to give sports/educational opportunities to those future athletes and scholars without the financial means to achieve it, is what all TGS Alumni have a responsibility to do.  Austin, Brandyn and Asa, are living their commitment to the community. They are providing examples and opportunities for others to do the same.

The True Grit Sports Standard - "Community, Commitment and Hard Work"  remains strong and maintained. Woo - Ha!

They have represented and maintained the True Grit Sports Academy's standard of Hard work equal Great play!

IMG 7 on 7 National Championships

On June 27th, 2012,  I travelled to to Bradenton, Florida to the IMG 7 on 7 National Championships. We arrived together as 11 representatives of the Quick 6 - 7 on 7 football passing - tournament's runner up team. Upon arrival, we had no idea or expectations other than to realize our goals. The first - Get to the tournament with 10 to 17 TGS Warriors to test their skills against the best. The second - Earn respect and put ourselves in the best competitive position our skills would allow. Finally, third - compete to be the BEST! They accomplished all of these goals and more.

This group of Warriors demonstrated the WILL to achieve. This group, like the original Warriors are TRUE WARRIORS! This group beat all of the odds that were stacked against them on every play, every day!!!!! They were mostly out manned, never out gunned. They played with skill, technique and conditioning that allowed an 11 man roster to compete against 10 teams of 25 or more athletes per squad. Many of these teams were stacked with multiple 5 star athletes. These athletes are schedule to play at all of the SEC , ACC, Big East, Big 10, Mac, and Conf USA, colleges and universities.
They proved that the TGSA standard of hard work (mental) and conditioning (physical preparation) WORKS against any situation. As a result, they received the praise and respect from their opponents, and the recognition from the IMG officials they were seeking. Both their opponents and the coaching staff where always shocked with our skill and execution. For many, it was too much! Only a few, got a way!
The IMG officials - the founder, the director, and the training staff - all reported that the TGSA Warriors performed with excellent football skills and were a great group of football athletes. Further, the IMG officials reported, their surprise with the TGSA Warriors ability to defeat and compete with the larger teams. More importantly, the IMG officials consistently, commented on the teams sportsmanship and behavior.
Unfortunately, the clock was not always friendly. On the third day, the reduction of recovery time, ruled the day.  The lack of sufficient recovery time, contributed to the defeated of the TGSA Warriors. The TGSA Warriors physical conditioning had reached its limit. This resulted on the third day of competition, only 9 of the original 11 TGSA Warriors were able to compete. At the end of the tournament, the TGSA Warriors finish their tournament play in the 2nd round of the last day. The TGSA Warriors loss 24 to 12 in their final tournament game. The team that beat TGSA Warriors won the tournament!

Individually, they all stood out and grew as young men and TGSA athletes. As a result, IMG recognized both Steven Rogers and Joey Banks for their individual efforts during the team skills competition. Joey received the trophy for best overall football skills, and Steven set a tournament record has he received the trophy for best skilled RB.

The trip was better than we could have expected. The experience earned and learned could not be duplicated anywhere else. The confidence and skills the TGSA Warriors demonstrated everyday and every play will show up this football season - BIG!  As a result, the TGSA Warriors are known to the  AAU 7 on 7 league of teams throughout USA. The TGSA Warriors help put Northern California on the map, along with Team Pro Sports of San Jose. The respect and attention the TGSA Warriors earned will go a long way for each Warrior, True Grit Sports and Elk Grove, Ca.

The True Grit Sports Nation can be PROUD of it's 2012 TGSA FB Warriors. They represented and maintain the TGSA standard of Hard Work equal Great play! WOO - HAH!!!!!!
